Crop & Resize for Open Graph Image
Export a 1200 × 630 PNG for your page's share artwork. Keep the headline and logo clear, then publish the image and check the public page URL. 100% private — images never leave your device.

Prepare an Open Graph image for a public page
1200 × 630 is a practical starting canvas for a landscape share image. Open Graph does not require one universal image size, and each platform can crop or render the image differently.
Example: design for the landscape card and a tighter crop
Crop, export, and check your image
1. Choose artwork that represents the page
Use a sharp JPG or PNG with the page's key message already in the artwork. A resizer cannot add a headline or restore detail from a tiny image.
2. Frame the 1200 × 630 crop
The Open Graph preset is selected already. Drag the crop so the important text, logo, and subject remain inside the frame. Avoid relying on small text or information at the edges.
3. Export, publish, and check the page
Download the PNG and host it at a public HTTPS URL. Add its URL to og:image in the page's HTML head, along with its actual width, height, type, and descriptive alt text. Then run the public page URL through the OG checker.
Example image metadata after publishing
Replace the example URL and alt text with your published image. These are image properties; the page also needs its title, type, and canonical URL.
<meta property="og:image" content="https://example.com/share.png" />
<meta property="og:image:type" content="image/png" />
<meta property="og:image:width" content="1200" />
<meta property="og:image:height" content="630" />
<meta property="og:image:alt" content="A description of your share artwork" />If the result is not ready to publish
- The card still uses the old image
- Confirm that the page's og:image points to the new public file. Platforms can cache share metadata; use their debugger or inspection tool to request a fresh fetch after publishing.
- The image is missing
- Open the image URL without signing in and check that it serves an image rather than an HTML error page. A local download or private storage URL cannot be fetched by a public social crawler.
- The image looks soft, cropped, or loads slowly
- Start with a sharper source and move the main message inward. Check the final image at small sizes. Compress or convert the PNG if it is large, inspect the output, and verify the actual platform preview.
Current guidance and limitations
The protocol defines og:image as the image URL and offers width, height, type, secure URL, and alt text as structured properties. It does not prescribe 1200 × 630 or guarantee a particular crop. Match metadata dimensions to the file you publish and consult each destination's current requirements.
